Amelia: 18 months

  • Height: 31.2″
  • Weight: 26 lbs
  • Sleeping patterns: Amelia goes to bed at 1830 and usually wakes up around 0630. Since starting daycare, she was forced to turn her two naps a day into just one long one. It was rough at first, but she is adjusting. She goes down around 1200 for nap and sleeps for a good 2 hours.
  • Feeding schedule: Amelia wants breakfast the second her eyes open in the morning. I have been giving her a bowl of dry cereal to tide her over until I make breakfast for everyone else. For breakfast #2 (which is around 0800) she likes scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits, pancakes, fruit, oatmeal, or a bagel. She’s really not picky! Snacks consist of yogurt, cottage cheese, raisins, goldfish, string cheese, fruit, or a snack bar. Lunch is around 1100 and she will usually eat a sandwich with some grapes and chips. She snacks again after waking up from her nap and then eats dinner no later than 1700. She will definitely let you know when she’s hungry and will not let you miss a meal time! For dinner I usually try to give her what we’re eating, but her favorites are cheese tortellini, turkey hotdogs, salads, chicken quesadillas, and tomato soup with grilled cheese. She loves to drink milk now and gets that along with water. If she sees you drinking anything out of a cup with a straw, she demands a sip! Pretty much anytime we sit down with food she wants to sit in our laps with us and will eat again if it’s something she likes. There’s not a lot of food that she doesn’t like besides a few vegetables. If she’s not occupied with playing, she is usually at the refrigerator or pantry door begging for food.
  • Sounds and motions she makes: Amelia is quite the little talker! She says “mama”, “bye bye”, “Demper” (Semper), “night night”, and will mimic other words she hears us saying. She loves to jabber! While watching the boys play hotwheels on the floor, she joined right in and started making car noises with them. I’m so amazed at how much she understands of what we say to her. She also sticks her tongue out when she’s happy and does the funniest open mouth smile! She will go get her shoes when I tell her to, get in her highchair, grab her jacket, head upstairs, and of course she knows the word “eat.” She knows how to give “high fives,” waves when she or someone else is leaving, is a master clapper, and leans in so that our foreheads touch when she sees me smiling at her. At night, she likes to hop up in her rocking chair and rock herself. I can tell how much she loves music too, by the way she bobs up and down when she hears a tune! She’s also gotten quite fast on her feet and has really mastered going up the stairs.
  • Likes and dislikes: Amelia loves dancing and sitting in my lap! She will grab a book, toy, or snack and turn around in my lap and sit down. She also likes when it’s time to eat and will run to her highchair and climb up and sit down. The daycare said she is the first one to sit down at the table when she sees the food cart roll in! She still sucks her thumb just before going to bed, but has also developed a love of picking the fuzz off her blankie. She will pick it off and occasionally put it in her mouth. I’m hoping this little habit won’t stick around for long. Since starting to walk, she loves any sort of push toy that she can push around the house. We got her a shopping cart for Christmas that she can put her toys in and push and she just loves it! She enjoys bouncing in her jumperoo, stacking rings on her stacker, digging in the dishwasher, playing peekaboo with Easton, pulling one sock off, and getting into mommy’s makeup. We let Easton take her for a ride on his tractor in October and she couldn’t stop smiling! We are pretty sure she’s going to be our daredevil child! She loves playing with Semper and giving him a hug. She really has a strong love for all animals and lights up when she sees one. Her only major dislike is having her diaper changed. I have to find an exciting object for her to hold in order for her to remain still. Waiting for food is also not high on her “like” list or not being able to hold the phone while we Facetime.
  • By the end of the month, she is learning to: Amelia took her first step on the first day of September following her first birthday! She was pretty wobbly for a little while, but turned that into a good waddle and is now taking off! One of her favorite games to play is to make eye contact with you and then start running in hopes that you’ll chase her. And we seem to be doing a lot of chasing lately! She is doing great at sleeping through the night, finishing everything on her plate, and understanding more of what we’re telling her. I can also tell she’s very coordinated. She learned how to put the stacking rings back on very quickly and loves a game where you string objects on a cord.  She is really starting to play with her toys now and has gotten quite good at putting Legos together. At the park, she enjoys going down the slide and has learned from daycare how to push people down! We had a rough few months dealing with a persistent cough that she had and were told she may have asthma and eczema, but she remained a happy little girl through it all. Her only request is that you hold her.

  • Traci - Getting so big and bright! Can’t wait to see her again! Charli, Crew and myself all have eczema… just good lotion {we are sensitive skin people lol}. And I don’t know if you remember but Charli might have even been about Amelia’s age but Charli had a horrible habit of “picking”. She would pick the fuzz off of her blanket and lovies and it turned into us rushing her to the ER because she stuffed so much up her tiny nose. I will NEVER forget that day and the smell…ReplyCancel
